Empire of the Sun/ New job

It came out just recently on DVD and I bought it the other day - Empire of the Sun. The film was made back in 1987 and I saw it when it was first released at the age of 16. For some reason it had a very big impact on me - it's visual style, themes and characters all greatly influenced me. Also perhaps because I identified with Jim, the main character. If you haven't seen it yet then you should check it out.

Today was my second day in my new job and I can honestly say I don't like it much. It's not terribly hard, the people are generally nice, but I am already bored with it. I just don't have any enthusiasm for retail anymore. I've been thinking about taking some time off from working for a while, maybe eight weeks, and just reevaluate what I want to do as a 'day job'. Sometimes one has to stop, just stop, and try to see things more clearly.

My film and tv work is always ongoing, that is my life, but I need something for the time being to pay the bills, and retail is just to uninteresting now.

The place I work is kinda stange too, at least the customers are. One guy today walked right into one of the glass walls, I mean really hit it. He may have been a bit drunk, I don't know. But many of the customers seem so wealthy that they can afford to be rude, which I definately don't like. That pisses me off. People like that get beaten up where I come from so I have to work extra hard to hold my tongue.

Took ages to get home from work - I finish at 5:30pm but I didn't get home until at least 6:30pm on the bus. One of the reasons I took this job was because it is so much closer to home, yet it takes me twice as long now to get home. I'll walk home tomorrow to see if that is quicker than the bus. Like most people I just hate wsting time after work getting home. Always on the lookout for a quicker way.

All in all though I'm feeling good - my hair is getting long fast which is what I want. Am also hoping to get to the beach on an ongoing basis as I haven't been there for ages and I miss it. Hey I've got a car so I should use it for things other than going to the movies!

I think you should cope quite well with this part after the gallery!

True, but at least at the gallery it was a fairly small space and I had you looking over my shoulder!

I wasn't looking over your shoulder Rob. I was too busy making sure you weren't looking over mine! Remember you did work twice as hard as I.

Quite possibly. Certainly, I was the one who stood for most of the day.
