Energex TV Commerical

On Sunday 23 October I was in a TV commercial for Energex. My call time was 1pm and as usual with me I was early. The location was a house (whose I have no idea) out at Brookfield. I thought it would take ages to get there but I made it in about 25 minutes.

After arriving and meeting up with Bree, the costume girl, I had nothing much to do but wait. And then came lunch. My "wife" for the purposes of the commercial arrived. I had met her (Andrea) at the costume fitting a week earlier and so we sat down and chatted for a while.

Finally it was time to do our stuff and we took our seats at a tiny square dinner table, complete with food, radio and flashlight, all of which I was meant to interact with, and my wife, in the space of a few moments film time.

We rehearsed a few times and then did some takes. It all seemed to go smoothly; the director was happy, I was hamming it up (because I had too) and Andrea was trying not to laugh at me. After the filming was done a photogrpaher came in and needed to take photos of us for a billboard. Whether I will see myself on a billboard remains to be seen. I think it would be a strange thing to see though. Anyway he took what felt like a couple of hundred photos and we were done.

I got changed and upon stepping out of the room was told that the photographer needed me back on set again. Apparently something had gone wrong with his camera and he needed to do the shots over again. Andrea and I took our places at the table again and he got his shots. That was it for us and off home I went, with a couple of stopovers.

From what I could gather the commerical is to get people to have a radio handy during the summer storm season in case of blackouts, i.e. they can get weather and power updates.

Hope it turns out alright. In fact, I'd just be glad to see it, meaning I haven't even seen the Abused Child's Trust commercial I did months ago.

At work

At work right now, very quiet as usual. It's all been changed around in here but I don't think it's going to make much of a difference. Gets pretty boring here so thankfully I have the internet when it gets really dull, though there's always something to do...mostly boring stuff. Anyway, it's a job nd pays the bills. It's the kind of job that once I leave at 5pm I forget about it. I never have homework!

The weekend

On Saturday afternoon I had an audition for a TV commercial at West End. Can't remember much else of that day, I think I just read, ate lost and watched some movies.

On Sunday went for a guided bushwalk into the Brisbane Forest Park with Veronica. As it was pelting down with rain not many people showed up, but off we went. Nice to see something new and get some fresh air, though we headed off earlier than the others. Had lunch then I drove her home.

Afterwards I stopped by my parents place for a little while then went and did some grocery shopping. I never look forward to grocery shopping. It's just something to be done and done quickly.

Trying to make myself go to bed earlier for a while, though I don't like it much. I'm kind of a night owl. Since I've temporarily lost my internet connection I have nothing to do late at night so I have no excuse not to go to bed early.

Bits & pieces

Saw 'Pride & Prejudice' with Veronica on Monday, she got free tickets. What an awesome film! Had a great time! I had no idea it would be so funny.

Been eating a lot, trying overseas beers, more writing on my feature, watching more dvd's cause that's what I do. At work right now and it looks like rain. Am going for a bushwalk on Sunday in the Brisbane Forest Park though it might rain.

Nothing much exciting happening lately. Just working through each day, trying to save money, planning this and that, doing some regular exercise.

Finally got it!!!!!

'How I Won the War', one of my all-time favourite films, just came out on DVD! It looks so good in widescreen. And the sound is a vast improvement over the old worn out VHS copy I had.

This film is little known but people often think it's great once they see it. Not everyone of course. Anyway, I'm happy!

My choice of worst films

I think most people by now know what my favourite films are, but here is an incomplete list of the films I dislike the most...and why!

Blues Brothers 2000
A silly cartoonish film where everyone seemed wealthy and successful. Maybe I'm wrong but I always thought the blues was about the exact opposite. In the first film we saw the grime of the inner city (Chicago) and the variety of African American street culture. In the sequel, all the grimmy realism has been replaced by vibrant colours, smiling faces and people who sell luxury cars. Hardly the blues!

Son of the Mask
Woeful! I barely got through it. For whatever strange reason, the guy who played the Mask at the beginning of the movie actually DOWNPLAYED the part! He looked bored while doing the role. The rest of the movie was unfunny, unoriginal and sort of painful to watch.

Fat Albert
I just don't think that the whole Fat Albert idea was enough to warrant a feature film. The racial stereotypes it presented were from the 70's and which had no bearing on today. Kids today wouldn't even know who Fat Albert was, and people my age who saw the series back in the 70's probably couldn't have cared less about it becoming a movie.

Inspector Gadget 2
'Dumb' is the best way to discribe this movie. The script, such as it was, went nowhere, it was just one dumb joke after another. I was actually in this movie and I had a chance to watch the director work. From my perspective, it didn't look like there was a great deal of effective communication between him and the crew.

Star Trek: Nemesis
A bit gimicky really. After so many years of very good Star Trek films and tv episodes, this film was a drag. The wedding at the beginning had nothing to do with the rest of the film, the villain was confusing, the big space battle a rip off from Wrath of Kahn, and the new character B4 was unneccessary.

King Arthur
They took a brilliant story and turned it into a piece of PC Hollywood crap. Not only that, they had to rewrite history to do so. Now, I don't mind a bit of poetic license, but this changed centuries of English history. And Clive Owen is sooooooo dull.

Crocodile Dundee 3
They waited years to make this and shouldn't have bothered. It had some silly B-story about art thieves which didn't make any sense. It wasn't funny and looked more like a tv show than a feature film.

If you go and rent any of these movies I will personally send taxi's to your house every night at 2am for a month!
