Lisa & Doco

Well my birthday was on January 24th, the very day that my girlfriend Lisa ended our relationship. We'd only been going out for about two and a half months, not a long time, but she could have chosen a better day. Who cares, I'm fed up with all that kind of crap now.

Today (Tuesday 31 Jan) I went to the Queensland Museum Loans and Archive offices in Hendra to meet with a geologist there about a doco I am planning about the geological and natural history of south-east Queensland. During our chat he showed me a fossil he had discovered...it was of a fern - the oldest fern ever found anywhere in the world. It comes from the Devonian era and is about 400 million years old!

Also saw the movie 'Sky High'. It's a Disney movie and of course aimed at kids, but it was great.

Suicide is Painless

If you didn't already know it, the theme music to the MASH television series actually has lyrics. The song - "Suicide is Painless" was written for the MASH movie, but when the series was started the producers kept the music but ditched the lyrics.

The song is very interesting and so here it is.

Through early morning fog I see
Visions of the things to be
The pains that are withheld for me
I realize and I can see,

{Refrain}

Suicide is painless
It brings on many changes
And I can take or leave it if I please

Try to find a way to make
All our little joys relate
Without that ever-present hate
But now I know that it's too late

{Refrain}

The game of life is hard to play
I'm gonna lose it anyway
The losing card I'll someday lay
So this is all I have to say

{Refrain}

The only way to win is cheat
And lay it down before I'm beat
And to another give my seatFor that's the only painless feat

{Refrain}

The sword of time will pierce our skin
It doesn't hurt when it begins
But as it works its way on in
The pain grows stronger, watch it grin

{Refrain}

A brave man once requested me
To answer questions that are key
Is it to be or not to be
And I replied, oh, why ask me

{Refrain}

And you can do the same thing
If you please

Just a coincidence

My girlfriend Lisa has been loaning me all the episodes of 'Sex and the City' on dvd, and right now I'm up to season 6 - the final season. Really great show. Never really watched it before.

The other evening I was watching an episode and I suddenly got the idea into my mind that David Duchovny (Mulder from the 'The X-Files') would make a great boyfriend for one of the girls in the show. I don't know why I thought it, I just did.

Anyway, that episode finished and I decided to watch the one directly after it. And guess who guest starred in it? Yep, David Duchovny!

Just a coincidence yes, but how strange.

Close call

Last night, after leaving Lisa's place at about 10:30pm I turned onto Wynnum Road and headed towards the city. A Ford Falcon station wagon was in the left lane and moving erratically. Another car, towing a boat, was not far ahead of me. I gave the station wagon space to come over into my lane as his was about to merge into mine anyway. He suddenly sped up and crossed from his lane into mine and then into the far right lane. Then he suddenly slowed down a bit.

All of a sudden the front passenger window was wound down and a gun was pointed towards my car - and it was then fired. The other car towing the boat swerved and I slowed right down but kept moving. I didn't know if Stepanie had been hit but I didn't want to pull over for an inspection if that lunatic in the station wagon decided to have another shot.

I let him drive on and, not far ahead, he made a u-turn, and went back the way he came, violently swerving from one side of the road to the other.

Trust me to come across the only gun-totting freak on the road that night.
